Trans Pecos Ratsnake- Bogertophis subocularis
Related Species- Baja Ratsnake- Bogertophis rosaliae
Range- Southern New Mexico, Western Texas, North Eastern Mexico
Diet- Lizards, Rodents, Birds
Captive Diet- Neonates- F/T or Live Pinkies, Juviniles- Hoppers, Subadult and up- Adult Mice to Medium Rats.
Housing- Neonates and juviniles do fine in tanks or tubs around 1' x 1'. Adults I recommend cages at the very least 2' x 2'.
Substrate- I recommend either Sani Chips or paper towels for bedding. Both are safe on the animals and they seem to like it.
Water and Humidity- These animals need a humidity level of 40% or less, increased humidity can cause problems. As far as water goes, be sure to have a full clean bowl at all time as you should do with all snakes even though "Subocs" are quite tolerant of dry conditions.
Hide Spots- You can use things such a flagstone or clay pots as hiding spaces or you can buy commercially made ones.
Temperment- About the first month out of the egg they can be a bit feisty, but after that it is smooth sailing. They are a very inquisitive species with a bit of personality. As adults they are very laid back and make great pets.
Morphs-
Blonde Albino
Axanthic Red Phase
Axanthic Blonde Patternless
Snows Albino Blondes
